TravelTime Matrix API
A distance matrix API built for scale. Calculate travel times from one location to 100,000 others in a few hundred milliseconds, for every transport mode.
With the TravelTime Matrix API you can:
- Calculate travel times from one origin to up to 100,000 destinations in a single search
- Include public transport alongside driving, cycling and walking
- Label every destination as reachable or unreachable within a travel time limit
- Return distance and UK public transport fares alongside travel time
- Run unlimited requests on a fixed annual price, with no per-element charge
What the Travel Time Matrix API returns
The Travel Time Matrix API returns the travel time between an origin and a set of destinations for a chosen transport mode. Destinations beyond your maximum travel time are returned as unreachable. Depending on the endpoint, results can also include distance, a distance breakdown by mode, route details and UK public transport fares.

TravelTime Matrix API FAQs
A travel time matrix API calculates travel times between sets of origins and destinations. You send an origin, a list of destinations and a transport mode, and it returns how long each journey takes. It's also called a distance matrix API.
Up to 10 searches of 100,000 destinations each on the Fast endpoint. The Protobuf endpoint accepts one search of up to 10 MB, roughly 2 million destinations. Google and Mapbox cap requests at 625 elements.
A single request can process 100,000 locations in a few hundred milliseconds.
Yes. Public transport times are built from published timetables and include walking, waiting and interchanges, at full matrix scale.
4 hours on the standard endpoint and 3 hours on the Fast endpoints, extendable on request. Destinations beyond the limit are returned as unreachable.
Yes, on the standard Travel Time Matrix endpoint. The Fast endpoints calculate for a typical weekday morning.
Yes, for driving, walking and cycling on the standard endpoint. Distance isn't returned for public transport journeys.
Yes, for UK public transport. Add fares to the requested properties.
Globally, for every transport mode.
Yes. There's no requirement to use our map libraries or SDKs, and no restriction on where results appear.
A fixed annual price with unlimited requests, rather than per element, so cost doesn't grow with matrix size.
