Routes API FAQs

A routes API calculates the path between two or more locations for a chosen transport mode. You send an origin, destination and departure or arrival time, and it returns the travel time, distance and directions for the journey.

It returns travel time, distance, the route broken into parts (walking, driving, transit legs and transfers), turn-by-turn directions and, where available, public transport fares. You choose which properties to include in each request.

12 hours. Destinations that can't be reached within 12 hours are returned as unreachable.

Up to 10 departure and 10 arrival searches per request, and each search can route from one origin to multiple destinations. For larger volumes, use the Travel Time Matrix API with the route property.

Yes. Public transport routes are built from published timetables and include walking legs, waiting time, interchanges and the specific services taken.

Yes. Multi-modal modes include driving + train, driving + public transport, cycling + public transport and ferry combinations, so routes reflect how people actually travel.

Both. Departure searches find routes leaving at a given time, and arrival searches find routes that arrive by a given time. For public transport you can also add a departure window to compare alternative journeys.

Yes, add fares to the requested properties to return ticket prices alongside the route.

Yes. There's no requirement to use our map libraries or SDKs, and no restriction on where routes appear.

A fixed annual price with unlimited requests, rather than per call, so cost is known before you build and doesn't grow with usage.
