ABOUT US

What we do

icon

We build tech that calculates travel times to thousands of locations in one go. Unlike routing apps which can calculate A to B routes, we ask users to specify one location and then calculate travel times from A to all possible Bs.

For example when searching for hotels, properties, jobs and restaurants, you could ask 'show me all locations I can reach within 45 minutes by public transport' and the API can show you a list ranked from shortest to longest times.
We don't build any apps ourselves, instead we licence our tech to existing website and app owners.

For example Rightmove allow people to search for a home based on commute time to the office, Totaljobs list job openings based on commute times and the NHS search for covid test centre locations using driving or walking times.

Why time is better than distance

At TravelTime, we believe transport data has the power to change the world. Every time we search for a job, new house, or place to go on holiday, we see distances listed alongside search results, e.g. “0.8 miles away from city centre”. This information is entirely abstract and assumes we can travel in a straight line. It also doesn't consider local transport links, congestion or local geography.

Why do many applications still choose distance?

Consumer websites use distance instead of time because this data can be incredibly expensive at scale. If they used Google to calculate these times, they would be charged for every search result, which is not cost-effective. What's more, it would slow down their site massively.

That is where TravelTime comes in - we can calculate hundreds of thousands of travel times simultaneously in the blink of an eye for one fixed annual cost. This patented tech has unlimited market opportunities and is already used by advertisers, real estate, travel and more.

Our history

How it started

Peter and Charlie began TravelTime (previously known as iGeolise) from Peter`s attic in 2009.

It is based on an idea Charlie had - that time would be more useful than distance to search websites and databases with lots of locations. In 2012, we won the UK leg of the European Satellite Navigation Competition and the ensuing press coverage led directly to our 1st client. More awards and many more clients followed.

After spells in the business incubators of SETsquared and the European Space Agency, we now have our own offices in London and Lithuania. TravelTime is used in many places across the world from Thailand to San Francisco.
