The future of location planning
We don’t sell crystal balls, but we can analyse travel network plans to give a good picture of future journey times. With H2 and Crossrail developments pending, employers, retailers and local businesses need to understand what the future holds when transport networks change.
If these stakeholders can understand the transport networks, they can identify the perfect locations for development in the future, whether this is for residential properties, offices or retail outlets. We can deliver travel time data for the current transport systems as well as simulating the transport networks of the future, so you can plan accordingly.
An API provider in Paris: the case study
TravelTime and Javelin Group worked together to demonstrate the impact of future transport systems to a retail client. The client was looking to identify the optimal store locations of the future so they could plan accordingly.
For the transport planning we first collected all of the Paris transport network data for railways, buses, tramways, walking and cycling. We then used our MinuteMapr software to map out the current travel times for different communes (they’re like postcode clusters of people used around Paris) in the city. This allowed the retailer to visualise how easily their customer base can currently access stores.
Using Metro expansion plans up until 2024, we then expanded the transport network. This required us to simulate future Metro transport data and travel times along this route. Adding this new information to the original MinuteMapr data meant that journey times could be calculated once again for routes that aren’t even built yet! The client was able to see how their customer’s access may change over time and could clearly pinpoint optimal locations for stores.
Looking for location planning analysis?
The whole project was done in less than a week, which included compiling transport data for the city and simulating future plans. If you’re looking for location-based analysis for your city or country get in touch with us directly.
What Javelin Group say
We were delighted with the MinuteMapr results. The results allowed us to assess the impact of proposed significant public transport network changes in Paris on travel times and consumer shopping behaviour. It’s an excellent tool that helps in our work for property landlords and retailers wishing to make location-based decisions accurately.
